Don Cheadle is an Academy Award-nominated actor who first became famous for his role as a district attorney on the television series "Picket Fences". Since then, he has appeared in a variety of popular films including "Boogie Nights," "Out of Sight," "Swordfish," "Crash," and the "Ocean's Eleven" series of movies.
A celebrity with a conscience, Don has repeatedly used his status to draw attention to social issues. He played the lead role in Hotel Rwanda, a story that centered around the violence between the Hutu and Tutsis. For his stellar performance in this film, Don was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Don continues to champion the causes of the oppressed; currently, he is heavily involved with efforts to stop the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. Don launched "Live For Darfur," a series of events in which many celebrities helped raise awareness about refugees in Darfur. These celebrities include many prominent bands and literary figures, including U2, Coldplay, Destiny's Child, Carlos Santana, Green Day, James Taylor, and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel.
Don also attended the Save Darfur Coalition's "National Day of Action" in Washington, speaking out about the death and disease that are plaguing Darfur. Don said of the conflict, "Collectively, we can change the world... I hope we can put our collective efforts together to address this real evil that exists today."
Don is an inspiring example of how celebrities can use their status to achieve real social change in the world. We’re proud to have him as a player in the Pro-Am Poker Equalizer and wish him the best of luck - both at the table and in his humanitarian efforts.
