Fact File

Gavin Smith - who is noted for his clowning personality - had a hand in one of the most notable scenes from the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) - poker professional Joe Sebok walking into the event dressed as Wonder Woman.

How did Gavin make this happen, you wonder? Well, it all started with a little bet.

Gavin and Joe made a bet on who would accumulate more points in various events during the early stages of the 2006 WSOP. The bet went like this: the losing player would be required to wear a costume during every day that they played in the WSOP Main Event. The first day, the losing player had to dress up as anything that the winner came up with. That’s right - anything.

So when Joe lost the bet, Gavin suggested the first thing that came into his head - a full body costume of a bear wearing an adult-sized diaper.

Of course, that was just the beginning.

The remaining terms of the bet stated that for each subsequent day that the loser played in the Main Event, he must dress up as a different superhero. The costume would be randomly picked from a list of superheroes that was pre-approved by both parties. As a result, Joe Sebok ended up wearing a Spiderman costume and a Wonder Woman costume to the Main Event.

The clowning personality that led to a bet like this is one of Gavin’s most charming assets at the poker table, but don’t be fooled - beneath his class-clown exterior is the mind of a seasoned poker professional. In 2005, Gavin made the final table at three World Poker Tour (WPT) events, earning one first-place finish, and a third- and fourth-place finish. These remarkable accomplishments earned Gavin the 2005 WPT Player of the Year.

To date, Gavin’s lifetime tournament earnings total more than $3.2 million. You can expect some to see great poker - and some great antics - from Gavin in the Pro-Am Poker Equalizer.
