Fact File

Why is David Williams the Magic Man? Because his foray into playing cards started with a game called "Magic: the Gathering". Like thousands of people around the world, David started playing the game in his teens.

David was a wiz at the game, earning more than $30,000 during Magic tournaments. He even made it into the 2001 Magic World Championships. However, he decided while taking a break from Magic that he would try his hand at poker; that’s when things really started getting magical.

In the 2004 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, David finished second in a field of more than 2,500 players. His performance turned his $10,000 tournament fee into $3.5 million - how’s that for a magic trick?

Since his second-place finish in the WSOP, David has gone on to win many more tournaments and a lot more money, including a first-place finish in a WSOP even. His total live tournament winnings exceed $5.4 million - proving that he really does have the magic touch.
